Understanding Behaviour Support Plans in Inclusive Classrooms
A Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) is a written agreement between the school, the family and any therapists about how a child will be supported. It records the child's strengths, current functioning, barriers to learning and the goals the team is working on this term.
What a good plan includes
Student details and diagnosis, the child's own voice and the parents' voice, historical support, accommodations, things to avoid, term goals with a baseline, and clear strategies for the counsellor, the class teacher and the parents. A shared prompting scale and a performance scale let everyone describe progress the same way.
Why roles matter
Goals only move when each adult knows their part. Splitting strategies into what the counsellor will do, what the class teacher will do and what parents can do at home keeps support consistent across the day.
